'The fishtail (fish tail) was an innovation in the Victorian period and was an attractive gimmick to help tennis players to grip their rackets. The Borg–McEnroe rivalry was a tennis rivalry between Björn Borg and John McEnroe, who met 14 times on the regular tour and 22 times in total between November 1978 and April 1981. Their head-to-head was even at 7-7. Their on-court rivalry was highlighted by their contrasting temperaments and playing styles: the Swede Borg was known for his cool and emotionless demeanour on the court, while the American McEnroe was famed for his court-side tantrums. Dunlop Maxply Lew Alan Hoad Tennis Racket

Vintage Dunlop Fort wooden tennis racket with picture of Australian tennis player Lew Alan Hoad printed on the frame, circa 1950s, light/medium, grip 3, with a Wilson wooden racket brace on it, brown leather handle. ‘Lew Hoad was an Australian tennis player who rose to prominence in the 1950s, winning 13 major singles and doubles titles. With his rival and partner, Ken Rosewall, Hoad led Australia to win the Davis Cup in 1953 over the United States. The two were formidable in cup competition and helped Australia regain the trophy in 1955 and 1956. As a doubles team, Hoad and Rosewall won the Wimbledon, French, Australian, and Italian titles in 1953. A French white-metal circular ashtray by Pichard, the centre showing the Sun-King within a laurel wreath, the reverse with engraved inscription: "Fred Perry. Ville de Royan. Septembre 1993,". There were four silver "Fred Perry Cup" commemorative medals from the 1993 Tournament at Royan.

Head Boron Tennis Racket in Case

1980's AMF Gold frame Head Boron Arthur Ashe, Competition 3, tennis racket with a black leather handle and beige and black suede case. Arthur Ashe was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam singles titles. Arthur played with a silver version of this racket when he won the Men's Singles Championship at Wimbledon against Jimmy Connors in 1975.

Helen Wills was an outstanding American tennis player who was the top female competitor in the world for eight years (1927–33 and 1935). Wills began playing tennis when she was 13 and won her first major title, the U.S. girls’ championship, in 1921. She repeated as national girls’ champion in 1922 and won her first women’s singles title in 1923 at the age of 17. With powerful overheads and serves, combined with extraordinary control, Wills soon dominated women’s tennis; from 1926 until 1932 she did not lose a set in singles play. She was a seven-time U.S. champion (1923–25, 1927–29, and 1931) and eight-time Wimbledon winner (1927–30, 1932–33, 1935, and 1938) in singles competition. From 1923 to 1939, she captured 4 French singles titles and 12 U.S., Wimbledon, and French doubles championships. In 10 Wightman Cup appearances, she won 18 of 20 singles matches. At the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, she earned two gold medals. Known as “Little Miss Poker Face” for her stoic demeanour, Wills engaged in a fierce rivalry with the gregarious U.S. player Helen Hull Jacobs. Jaroslav Drobny’s Hall of Fame Enshrinement Certificate

“Jaroslav Drobny’s Hall of Fame Enshrinement Certificate” dated July 10 1993. By sporting standards, Jaroslav Drobný was a late bloomer. He played in four major finals before winning his first as a 30-year-old at the 1951 French Championships. Drobný, a native of Prague, Czechoslovakia, defected from his native country in 1949 and became an Egyptian citizen. He ultimately settled in Great Britain, becoming a citizen in 1959. His travels are as numerous and intriguing as are his 13 trips to major finals in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Drobný won a bundle of amateur singles titles, believed to be 133 according to published reports. He ranked in the World’s Top 10 for ten straight years (1946-56) and rose to the No. 1 position in 1954. Esteemed tennis writer Allison Danzig wrote that with the exception of the long-distance runner Emil Zatopek, “…no Czech athlete has brought greater honour to his country than Drobný.” (tennisfame.com, 2022).

LTA Meritorious Service Award 2004

Circular, glass award from LTA Tennis Nation for Meritorious Service Award 2004, awarded to Wendy Vernon-Browne. This was introduced in 1982 in honour of Sir Carl Aarvold, President of the LTA between 1963 and 1981. It is considered to be the highest award that the LTA gives to an individual for services to tennis. It recognises outstanding contributions to tennis both in Britain and internationally.

The Lawn Tennis Championship Match at Wimbledon, framed print, by Arthur Hopkins

Copy of original painting from 1882, this version is a colour print, which has been mounted and framed. "Arthur Hopkins was a London-born landscape and genre painter in watercolour and oil, and also an illustrator. Born in 1848, he entered the Royal Academy School in 1872, and exhibited at the leading London galleries, including the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours and the Royal Academy. He was then elected a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Water-colours in 1896. He painted several sporting subjects including Henley Royal Regatta (1891) and a portrait of H.F. Lawford and W. Renshaw playing golf. In 1893 he painted 'A Lesson in Lawn Bowls'. Arthur Hopkins was the brother of Gerard Manley Hopkins, a poet and entertainer, and of Everard Hopkins (1860-1928), who was a watercolourist and illustrator. He died in 1930."
